We know the intrigue and the mystique of wondering where someone might be when all you know from an auto-reply to your e-mail is they are “out of the office with limited access to e-mail”.

Hence, it’s time for our annual tradition – How BDBF Spent Our Summer Vacation

Is it over already? I’ve been measuring time this summer by which camp my daughter was in for that week. We didn’t have any major trips this summer, but had lots of BBQs, some beach days, and plenty of time with friends. My family and I did get a chance to sneak away to Boston for a few days to meet my new nephew and explore the city.

Liz Farley

This summer, we stayed mostly in the DMV area as we (not so) patiently await the arrival of our first baby. However, we did make time to travel to Aruba in May for one last getaway before becoming parents. We ate a lot and enjoyed the sun! We also made it to upstate New York for the July 4th holiday and escaped the DC heat and humidity for a bit!

Phil Kuljurgis

The Kuljurgis Family Summer of 2025 was quite standard. Where do I begin? My daughter went to a field hockey camp at the University of Mary Washington. My son attended Scout camps in Virginia and Pennsylvania. The rest of the summer was quite typical. We went on a family beach trip to Rehoboth, Delaware. In between, we made memories with family in Michigan and Minnesota. It was a great summer.

Jeremy Rachlin

Summer vacation in the Rachlin house was spent largely at the neighborhood pool. However, while our daughter was at sleepaway camp, my wife and I snuck out of town for a week-long cruise to Mexico and Central America. We zip-lined over cenotes, snorkeled with amazing sea creatures, scouted out various tropical paradises where we can move if we truly want to go off the grid, enjoyed a few (several) adult beverages poolside on our days at sea, and I met a few capuchin companions along the way!

Meg Rosan

The Rosans enjoyed another summer full of lacrosse tournaments, weekends on the Eastern Shore, and one very hot beach week on St. Simon’s Island, Georgia.

Our family took a trip to Lake Norman, North Carolina, with a couple of other families in our neighborhood. The house we rented was immaculate and served as a great home base to relax by the lake and explore the area. We enjoyed boating, tubing, swinging off the dock, and expertly cultivated barbeques. Nights were punctuated by s’mores and clear night skies, perfect for stargazing and spotting space stations. It was close enough to Charlotte to take in some semi-pro car racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We finished off the trip at the US National Whitewater Center, where we fell off ropes courses and splashed in rapids. On the way back, we slowed things down colonial-style with an overnight visit to Williamsburg. A great time was had by all!
